In my opinion it's not Gong Hay Fat Choy.
Afterall, Cantonese is just a local dialect. (no offense)
For me, it's Gong Xi Fa Cai.
So if any of you happen to be in Beijing or wherever on Chinese New Year, don't say Gong Hay Fat Choy.
Don't.
It's like telling an American "Happy July 4th" in Italian.

When in doubt
When in doubt, write something.
Even if it does happen to be something like:
Sardines take years to expire.
And because I'm currently in doubt, I write
